Central Michigan Women’s Lacrosse Secures Victory with Late Scoring Surge

In an intense non-conference women’s lacrosse match-up, Central Michigan’s Celia Dow scored a critical goal with just three seconds left in regulation time to secure a 14-13 victory over Canisius. The Chippewas managed to clinch their first win of the season with six players contributing multiple points. Despite the loss, Canisius’ freshman Katie Adams shined with five goals, while junior Megan Hiltz added three goals and an assist. The game was neck and neck, with the score tied 10-10 after three quarters. The lead changed hands multiple times in the fourth quarter, with Adams showcasing her scoring prowess.

Going into the game with a 9-6 lead at halftime, Central Michigan saw Canisius make a spirited comeback in the second half, taking a temporary lead before Dow’s game-winning goal. The Chippewas struggled with turnovers, committing 26 compared to Canisius’ 12. Adams’ performance set a new standard for the team, with her five goals being the most by a Canisius player this season. Maddie Fitzgerald showcased her consistency with a goal in 14 consecutive games.

Looking ahead, Canisius will face Mount St. Mary’s in a MAAC game on March 22 to close out their three-game homestand. The game, scheduled for noon, will be available for streaming on ESPN+. Despite the tough loss, Canisius is motivated to bounce back and continue their pursuit of success in the league.
