Tracy Vallerand, the biological mother of a Connecticut man allegedly held captive by his stepmother for decades, revealed that she gave up custody of him shortly after his birth in 1993 due to personal issues. Vallerand had lost custody of her daughter years earlier after allegations of shaken baby syndrome. She allowed her son to live with his father, believing it would give him a better chance at a full life. However, the man, now 32, was found locked in a small room in his stepmother’s home in Waterbury in February. He was underweight and mistreated, fed only two sandwiches a day. Vallerand expressed shock and regret over what her son experienced, vowing to be there for him now. She had tried to reconnect with him, but was unable to find him. Vallerand and her daughter plan to attend all court appearances for the stepmother, who is facing charges of assault, kidnapping, and cruelty. The stepmother’s attorney denied the allegations, stating that she continued to provide for the man in the household. The man’s biological father, who also lived in the home, passed away in 2024. Vallerand and Tessman are determined to seek justice and support the man as he recovers from his traumatic ordeal.
