Michigan Woman Sues Detroit’s MGM Grand Over Unpaid Jackpot
Denise Ezell, a longtime gambler at Detroit’s MGM Grand, filed a lawsuit on Wednesday in the U.S. District Court Eastern District of Michigan, claiming the casino failed to pay out her $127,000 jackpot from October 30, 2023. In addition to the jackpot, Ezell is seeking $75,000 in damages.
According to the lawsuit, Ezell won the jackpot while playing at a progressive blackjack table when a dealer announced her win. However, she was subsequently told by a pit boss that she could not claim her winnings because she was allegedly trespassing due to an incident in 2015 involving an argument with another person at the casino, who happened to be her cousin.
Ezell alleges that despite not being informed of any ban from the casino, she continued to gamble there over the next nine years. She claims she was reassured by a casino security employee, Greg Jones, that she would receive her jackpot, only to later be told that the matter was out of his control.
The lawsuit states that Ezell’s reliance on the promises made by the casino’s employees led to harm and injuries when the casino failed to fulfill its promise to pay her jackpot. MGM has not yet commented on the lawsuit.
