Man detained in Chicago on warrant from Michigan

Adam Beckerink, the husband of Caitlin Tracey who was found dead in a South Loop condo last October, has been arrested on charges of aggravated assault unrelated to her death. Beckerink, a prominent Chicago tax attorney, was taken into custody on a warrant out of Berrien County, Michigan, on Friday at his South Loop condo where Tracey’s body was discovered.

The arrest stems from domestic violence charges filed against Beckerink in Michigan, where Tracey lived before and during their marriage. Court documents indicate that Tracey had cuts and red marks, accusing Beckerink of assault and theft. Beckerink faces six felony counts, including domestic violence and resisting arrest.

Tracey, 36, was found dead in the stairwell of the condo building after falling more than 20 floors in October 2024. The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office has not determined a final cause of death.

Following Tracey’s death, a legal battle for custody of her remains erupted between Tracey’s parents and Beckerink, with the parents eventually allowed to bring her remains back to Michigan.

Beckerink is currently in protective custody and his case is scheduled to continue on March 10. No charges have been filed in relation to Tracey’s death, and police have not named any suspects. The arrest warrants are believed to be connected to Beckerink’s missed court appearances in Michigan.
