The Michigan Justice Fund (MJF) has granted $1.7 million to support equity and justice in Michigan, with a focus on reentry and workforce development programs. Michigan Works! West Central has received $100,000 to implement the Reclaiming Futures program for juvenile lifers and individuals with maxed-out cases. The program aims to provide essential resources, mentorship, and opportunities for successful reintegration into society.
The OS Reentry Services program, led by the Michigan Department of Corrections, is administered by Michigan Works! West Central for Prosperity Region 4. The program offers support in essential resources, mentoring, housing, health services, and opportunities for higher education and skilled trades. Traditional reentry programs often overlook max-out cases and juvenile lifers, making this initiative crucial in addressing their unique needs and barriers.
Other organizations receiving grant funds include 70 x 7 Life Recovery, Mackinac Center, SER Metro-Detroit Jobs for Progress, Inc., Southeast Michigan Community Alliance, Trinity Health-Michigan Southeast, We the People Opportunity Farm, and West Central Michigan Employment & Training Consortium, Inc.
MJF has deployed over $20 million dollars since 2020 to support justice reform efforts in Michigan. The grants aim to create new pathways to opportunities in various industries, such as healthcare, social enterprise, and housing. The funding will inspire progress and contribute to meaningful systemic change throughout the state and beyond.
