The Hillsdale College women’s tennis team faced a tough battle in their spring opener against Michigan Tech, ultimately falling short with a 4-3 loss. Despite winning three singles matches and pushing two more to third set tiebreaks, the Chargers were unable to secure the fourth point needed for victory. Sophomore Ane Dannhauser, the 2023-24 G-MAC Freshman of the Year, was the standout player for Hillsdale, winning both her singles and doubles matches. Senior Libby McGivern and freshman Julia Zlateva also secured wins for the team. Freshman Brianna Rees and senior Courtney Rittel fought hard in their matches but fell just short in tiebreak finishes. The Chargers (0-1) will look to bounce back in their upcoming match against Lake Superior State University next Saturday at 3 p.m. This is one of two home matches for the team as they utilize their indoor courts at the Biermann Athletic Center in February. Despite the loss, the team showed determination and skill in their first match of the season. Photo by Kenneth Gaudet.
