Michigan State, ranked No. 7, falls to USC with a score of 70-64

The Michigan State men’s basketball team suffered a 70-64 loss to Southern California, ending their 13-game win streak. Redshirt freshman Jeremy Fears Jr. led the Spartans with 12 points and 6 assists. The team struggled with turnovers and free throw shooting, committing 13 turnovers and shooting a season-low 57.9% from the free throw line.

Despite falling behind by as many as 15 points in the first half, Michigan State rallied to cut the lead to three points at halftime. However, USC extended their lead in the second half, and the Spartans were unable to close the gap. The loss marked Michigan State’s first road loss of the season and dropped them to 18-3 overall and 9-1 in the Big Ten Conference.

Head coach Tom Izzo’s team struggled on both ends of the court, allowing USC to score 12 points off turnovers and giving up 10 offensive rebounds. The Spartans also had difficulties with their shooting, scoring only 64 points – their second-lowest output of the season.

Despite the loss, there were some bright spots for Michigan State, with players like Jaden Akins and Jaxon Kohler contributing to the team’s efforts. The Spartans will look to bounce back as they continue their West Coast swing with a game against UCLA on Tuesday.
