Fourth American Prisoner-Hostage Exchange

A total of 183 Palestinian prisoners and detainees are expected to be released today in exchange for three hostages. The prisoners include those with life sentences and high sentences, as well as those from the Gaza Strip arrested after the Oct. 7 attacks. Two of the hostages, Ofer Kalderon and Yarden Bibas, were handed over in Khan Younis, with the fate of Bibas’ wife and young sons still unclear. Hamas militants await the Red Cross at Gaza Port to hand over the third hostage, Keith Siegel.

Kalderon and Bibas have arrived in southern Israel and are waiting to reunite with their families. Siegel is expected to be released soon. The orderly handover of the hostages in Khan Younis was a stark contrast to the chaotic handover that took place previously. The Israeli military has confirmed the handover of the two hostages and is prepared to receive the third. The families of the hostages have been informed and are being supported by the government and security agencies.

The exchange of the hostages is underway in Gaza, with the hostages being transferred to the Red Cross in Khan Younis. American hostage Keith Siegel is among those set to be released, along with Yarden Bibas and Ofer Kalderon. Siegel was taken during the Oct. 7 attack and was last seen in a video released by Hamas in April, assuring his family that he was doing okay.
