Certain federal websites experience temporary downtime following the directive to adhere to Trump’s DEI order

Several government websites briefly went dark on Friday following an order from the White House to remove language related to diversity, equity, and inclusion. The Federal Aviation Administration, the Census Bureau, and the Justice Department were among those affected, with some pages coming back online later. This order was in response to an executive order signed by President Trump recognizing only male and female genders, leading to the removal of references to “gender ideology” across federal government pages.

The Trump administration has already removed numerous webpages from federal health agencies, including the CDC, FDA, and NIH. Pages related to HIV data, racial disparities, transgender individuals, and more were scrubbed. The U.S. Agency for International Development also had several webpages taken down. Federal employees were instructed to eliminate support for DEI efforts, including resource groups and cultural awareness celebrations.

The Health and Human Services page reproductiverights.gov, containing information on reproductive care, including abortion, was among those removed. The CDC also began removing content related to gender identity. An email from the Office of Personnel Management directed employees to only recognize male and female genders.

CDC pages on contraception and emergency contraception were missing, but the information can still be found through detailed searches. Despite these changes, Trump stated in a December interview that he would not restrict access to medication abortions during his second term. Overall, these actions highlight ongoing efforts by the Trump administration to restrict language and resources related to diversity, equity, and reproductive rights across government websites.
