Michigan Technological University will be transformed into a medieval wonderland as students prepare for Winter Carnival 2025 with the theme “Dragons, Knights, and Legendary Sights.” The event, taking place from February 5-8, will feature the traditional snow statues alongside a laser show projected onto the Walker Arts and Humanities Center.
In addition to the laser show, students will compete in a variety of contests and events throughout Winter Carnival, including human ice bowling, tug-of-war, and the Stage Revue. The campus will come alive with a dance party featuring giant snow speakers, and fire cages will add warmth and light to the festivities.
The highlight of the Winter Carnival is the snow statue competition, where more than 70 statues built on and around campus will be judged based on criteria such as originality, theme, and craftsmanship. Students face challenges like unpredictable weather, but they persevere to create memorable and unique snow sculptures.
Beyond the snow statues, students at Michigan Tech are also looking forward to experiencing sled dog rides offered by the Mushing Club during Winter Carnival. The club, which formed in 2018, partners with Otter River Sled Dog Training Center to provide hands-on learning opportunities with sled dogs and participate in races.
Brynn Santi, a third-year student and member of Blue Key National Honor Society, shared her excitement for Winter Carnival and her involvement in both the snow statue competition and the Mushing Club. She encourages everyone to have fun and enjoy the unique traditions that make Michigan Tech’s Winter Carnival a special and unforgettable experience.
