Woman rescued from Lake Michigan by strangers after diving in to save dog

A 51-year-old woman and her dog were rescued by strangers after falling through the ice on Lake Michigan in Grand Haven. The woman had gone out walking on the ice when her dog fell into a hole, prompting her to dive in after it. Three bystanders nearby saw the incident and were able to pull both the woman and her dog out of the icy water without any reported injuries.

Grand Haven police remind the public to stay off Lake Michigan, even if the ice seems safe. They caution that shelf ice can collapse and there may be hidden dangers not immediately visible. This incident serves as a reminder of the potential dangers of walking on frozen bodies of water.
