Excitement Builds for UP’s I-500 Snowmobile Race Weekend

The I-500 Snowmobile Race, Michigan’s biggest winter spectacle, is set to take place this Saturday in Chippewa County. Racers have been preparing for weeks, fine-tuning their snowmobiles for the big event. Race Chairman Ric Federau advises visitors to dress warmly, as the frigid temperatures are expected to draw in large crowds after a mild winter in 2024.

Final qualifiers will take place on Thursday, with the opportunity to join a pub crawl in downtown Soo in the evening. Friday night will feature the Miss I-500 Pageant at Kewadin Casino, but racers say the real fun is hanging out at the oval track, meeting friends from various states and countries.

The race is not just about competition but also about experiencing the thrill and excitement of being in a crowd of thousands, watching the high-octane event unfold. Race tickets in the form of buttons can be purchased throughout the area and at the admission gates, with parking on race day priced at $10 or $20 with a trailer.

The I-500 Snowmobile Race promises a memorable and adrenaline-filled experience for all attendees, with the hope that they will leave eagerly anticipating the next year’s event. Fans and racers alike are gearing up for an action-packed weekend in Chippewa County.
