Michigan State Men’s Basketball Triumphs Over North Carolina in Maui Invitational Showdown
LAHAINA, Hawaii – In a thrilling matchup at the Maui Invitational, the Michigan State men’s basketball team secured a thrilling victory against No. 12 North Carolina, winning 94-91 in overtime. Junior guard Tre Holloman distinguished himself with a career-high 19 points, contributing significantly to the team’s performance on Wednesday night at the Lahaina Civic Center.
Holloman’s impressive effort included 13 points in the first half, but it was his poise during the overtime period that proved crucial as he sank four key free throws. The Spartans showcased a balanced offense, with six players finishing in double figures. Senior guard Jaden Akins added 14 points and three rebounds, while sophomore forward Coen Carr matched Akins with 14 points and secured seven rebounds. Redshirt freshman Jeremy Fears Jr. contributed 13 points, six assists, and four rebounds, and senior forward Frankie Fidler also scored 13 points alongside three rebounds. Sophomore forward Xavier Booker rounded out the scoring with 12 points and seven rebounds.
With this victory, Michigan State improves its overall record to 6-2, while North Carolina falls to 4-3. The Spartans will look to carry this momentum into their next game as they return to action on December 4, opening Big Ten Conference play against Minnesota.
