State Senator Mallory McMorrow, known for her passionate response to false accusations from a GOP colleague, is reportedly considering a run for the National Democratic Committee chair. The 38-year-old Democrat has gained national attention for her speech in response to accusations of “grooming,” a term used by pedophiles, during a fundraising email. McMorrow’s speech went viral with over 14 million views and catapulted her onto the national stage, leading to numerous donations and TV appearances. She has not confirmed her candidacy for the chair position but has expressed openness to opportunities.
Current DNC Chair Jaime Harrison is not expected to seek another term, leaving the position open for new contenders. Democratic former Maryland Gov. Martin O‘Malley and Minnesota state Democratic leader Ken Martin are among those vying for the chair so far. The change in party leadership comes as Democrats regroup from losses in the U.S. Senate and presidency on Nov. 5.
On the other side, Michigan Republican Party Chairman Pete Hoekstra has been nominated by Trump to be the nation’s ambassador to Canada. This nomination will still need approval from the U.S. Senate. Hoekstra previously served as the U.S. ambassador to the Netherlands under Trump. The vacancy in the Michigan Republican Party chair position will soon be filled as a result of this nomination.
