Grand Rapids, MI – Holiday Hope: Adopt a Pet for Christmas!
As the holiday season approaches, the Bissell Pet Foundation is making it easier than ever to welcome a new furry friend into your home. From December 1 to 17, the foundation will host its annual "Empty the Shelters" event, significantly reducing adoption fees at over 400 shelters nationwide, including 36 in Michigan. During this period, adoption fees in Michigan will be capped at $50 or less, making it an opportune moment for families to adopt.
In West Michigan, participating shelters include the Al-Van Humane Society in South Haven, Big Lake Humane Society in Muskegon, Harbor Humane Society in West Olive, and several others across the region. The initiative aims to address a critical issue facing animal shelters, as many are currently overwhelmed with pets needing homes.
Cathy Bissell, founder of the Bissell Pet Foundation, emphasized the urgency of the situation, stating, “It has been an incredibly challenging year for saving lives, as our nation’s shelters continue to take in more pets than they are adopting out." She pointed out that the Empty the Shelters initiative is more than just an event; it serves as a vital lifeline for countless homeless animals.
Since its inception in 2016, the Empty the Shelters campaign has successfully facilitated the adoption of over 300,000 pets. The Bissell Pet Foundation encourages families to visit their local shelters, highlighting that adopting or fostering a pet this holiday season can make a significant difference in the lives of many animals in need.
