The International Crimes Tribunal in Bangladesh has issued an arrest warrant for former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who is currently in India. This comes after violent protests earlier in the year resulted in over 700 deaths. The tribunal also requested arrest warrants for 50 individuals, including Hasina, citing the need for a thorough investigation. Hasina’s party, the Awami League, has faced multiple complaints alleging enforced disappearances, murder, and mass killings. Party leaders have either been arrested or gone into hiding in response to these allegations. Hasina’s son, Sajeeb Wazed, has stated that his mother is willing to face trial in Bangladesh as she believes she has done nothing wrong. The government of Bangladesh has pledged to make efforts to bring Hasina back from India within the one-month time frame set by the court. Despite the arrest warrant, there has been no immediate comment from the Awami League or Hasina herself. The situation is ongoing as efforts are made to bring the former Prime Minister back to Bangladesh for trial.
