Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy presented his long-awaited “victory plan” to potential US presidential candidates during a meeting in New York. The plan outlined Ukraine’s conditions for a cease-fire, including discussions on defense packages, sanctions against Russia, and measures regarding Russian assets. Zelenskyy also met with presidential candidates Donald Trump and Kamala Harris, with Harris pledging support for Ukraine and Trump emphasizing the need to stop the war in Ukraine and prevent Putin from winning. The meeting comes amid rising tensions in the US over support for Ukraine and the upcoming US elections.
Meanwhile, the European Union has increased its financial support for Ukraine, with a proposal to provide a loan worth up to 35 billion euros. This loan is intended to flow directly into Ukraine’s national budget, giving the country flexibility to meet its needs. However, Russian forces have been advancing in eastern Ukraine, with Ukrainian forces holding onto part of the Kursk region after a surprise invasion provided a temporary morale boost.
Overall, Zelenskyy’s “victory plan” sets the stage for potential peace negotiations, while the EU’s increased financial support aims to provide Ukraine with much-needed fiscal space. As the conflict in Ukraine continues to escalate, international support remains crucial in helping Ukraine defend itself against Russian aggression.
