An Israeli air attack on a school in northern Gaza has resulted in the deaths of at least 15 people, bringing the total number of casualties in the Gaza Strip to 36 in the past 24 hours. The Israeli military claimed it was targeting Hamas fighters at the school in the Jabalia refugee camp. Footage from the scene showed rescue workers scrambling to save casualties amidst widespread devastation, with one video showing the gruesome aftermath of the attack.
Israeli forces have frequently targeted schools, alleging that Hamas uses them as command centers for attacks. However, the Palestinian group has refuted these claims. Many schools in Gaza have been repurposed to house displaced families, as the conflict continues to uproot thousands of residents in the besieged enclave.
In a separate incident, the bodies of 88 Palestinians returned by Israel to Gaza were buried in a mass grave in Khan Younis. The Health Ministry criticized Israel for its inhumane treatment of the bodies, stating they were sent back piled in a truck with no means of identification.
The ongoing war in Gaza has resulted in the deaths of at least 41,534 Palestinians and over 96,000 injuries. The majority of the casualties have been women and children, with around 1,300 babies and toddlers under the age of two among the deceased. The Health Ministry has condemned the violence and called for an end to the bloodshed in the region.
