Yellowstone concession worker missing after hiking in harsh weather, prompting rescue efforts

Rescuers in Yellowstone National Park are searching for missing park concession worker Austin King, 22, who failed to check in as planned after a weeklong trek on and around Eagle Peak. King last spoke to a relative on Tuesday, describing challenging weather conditions on the mountain’s summit. His whereabouts from that point to Friday are unknown. Search efforts by more than 20 people on the ground, along with helicopters, drones, and canines, have not yet located King. Personal items belonging to King were found in the upper Howell Creek area, but his vehicle, a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado pickup with Minnesota plates, remains missing. Search crews from Yellowstone and Grand Teton national parks, as well as Park and Teton counties in Wyoming, have been involved in the search, focusing on the Yellowstone Lake area and Eagle Peak. King embarked on his trek after being dropped off at Terrace Point on Yellowstone Lake. Temperatures in the park have been cold, with highs struggling to reach 60 degrees. King is described as 6 feet tall, 160 pounds, with hazel eyes, wearing glasses, a black sweatshirt, and gray pants. Anyone with information on his whereabouts should contact the Yellowstone Interagency Communications Center.
