Pop icon Janet Jackson, during an interview with The Guardian, echoed disinformation about Vice President Kamala Harris not being Black due to her Indian heritage. Jackson expressed confusion about Harris’s racial background and mentioned that she had heard Harris’s father was white. Harris’s campaign did not immediately respond to Jackson’s remarks. Former President Donald Trump previously made similar comments about Harris, claiming she “turned Black” for political gain. Harris responded by stating that such remarks promote divisiveness. Harris has Indian and Black heritage, with her mother hailing from India and her father from Jamaica. During the interview, Jackson also discussed child sex trafficking and expressed concerns about its prevalence in today’s society. Jackson, who has faced challenges in her personal life, is promoting tour dates and may be looking to strengthen her legacy, which has faced setbacks such as the infamous Super Bowl incident in 2004. Despite these challenges, Jackson has achieved significant success in her career, including 10 No. 1 hits, 5 Grammy Awards, and an Academy Award nomination.
