The FBI, EPA’s Criminal Investigation Division, and Coast Guard Investigative Services are conducting law enforcement activities on the Maersk Saltoro, a vessel managed by the same company responsible for the collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge. The Dali, a cargo ship owned and managed by the same companies as the Maersk Saltoro, crashed into a support pillar of the bridge on March 26, causing it to collapse and killing six construction workers. The NTSB reported that the ship experienced power losses before the crash, leaving it unable to steer away from the bridge. In a lawsuit filed by the U.S. Justice Department, it was alleged that Grace Ocean Private Limited and Synergy Marine Group ignored electrical problems on the Dali before the crash. Both companies are based in Singapore. The FBI has not provided further details on the ongoing investigation. NBC News has made attempts to contact the vessel’s owner, operator, the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Maryland, and the Coast Guard for comment, but no additional information has been released.
