In August, wealthy individuals from both parties donated millions to super PACs supporting Vice President Kamala Harris, former President Donald Trump, and various Democrats and Republicans across the country. The largest donations went to MAGA Inc., a super PAC backing Trump, with Wisconsin roofing billionaire Diane Hendricks contributing $10 million. Howard Lutnick and Paul Singer each gave $5 million to MAGA Inc., while Annette Caldwell Simmons and Warren Stephens donated $2 million and $1 million, respectively.
On the Democratic side, tech entrepreneurs were the most significant donors to FF PAC, a super PAC supporting Harris’ presidential bid, with Facebook and Asana co-founder Dustin Moskovitz contributing $3 million. Netflix co-founder Reed Hastings and Twilio co-founder Jeff Lawson and his wife each gave $1 million.
Super PACs like FF PAC and MAGA Inc. are attractive to big donors because they do not have limits on how much individuals can donate, unlike campaigns and affiliated committees. Other significant donations in August included $5 million each to Club for Growth Action, a conservative super PAC supporting GOP candidates, from Jeff Yass and Richard Uihlein. House Majority PAC, a group supporting Democrats running for Congress, received $600,000 from Amos Hostetter Jr., who has a history of donating to anti-Trump groups. These donations were reported for the period of August 1 to August 31, the first full month that Harris was the official Democratic presidential nominee.
