Trump to tour swing districts in Michigan and Wisconsin as battleground campaigning intensifies

Former President Donald Trump is intensifying his efforts in battleground states ahead of the fall election, with scheduled campaign stops in Michigan and Wisconsin on Thursday. Trump will be holding rallies in Potterville, Michigan, and La Crosse, Wisconsin, as he aims to recapture states he won in 2016 but lost narrowly in 2020.

In Michigan, Trump will be visiting Eaton County, where part of the state capital, Lansing, is located. This will be his third visit to the state in nine days, highlighting his focus on winning back key areas that he narrowly lost in the previous election.

In Wisconsin, Trump will participate in a town hall moderated by former Rep. Tulsi Gabbard, who endorsed him in Detroit. This will be Trump’s first visit to Wisconsin since the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee. Both Michigan and Wisconsin, along with Pennsylvania, are crucial battleground states that Democrats traditionally carried but were won by Trump in 2016 before being recaptured by President Joe Biden in 2020.

Trump’s campaign efforts in these states come as the Democratic Party rallies around Vice President Kamala Harris and her new running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz. Meanwhile, Trump’s vice-presidential pick, Ohio Sen. JD Vance, has also been actively campaigning in these key states.

Both Michigan’s 7th District and Wisconsin’s 3rd Congressional District, where Trump will be holding events, are expected to be highly competitive in the upcoming election. In Michigan, incumbent Democratic Rep. Elissa Slotkin’s decision to run for the state’s open U.S. Senate seat has increased the competitiveness of the district, while in Wisconsin, Republican Derrick Van Orden won narrowly in 2022, setting the stage for a closely contested race in November.

Overall, Trump’s campaign appearances in Michigan and Wisconsin signify the importance of these battleground states in the upcoming election and highlight the intense competition between Republicans and Democrats for key congressional seats.
