Michigan Paralympian strives to win the first badminton medal for Team USA

Miles Krajewski and Jayci Simon, Team USA’s mixed doubles para badminton pair, made history as the first U.S. badminton Paralympians in Paris. Despite barely speaking during play, the 19-year-olds demonstrated strong chemistry as they defeated India to begin their pursuit of Paralympic gold. Krajewski and Simon need to finish in the top two of their group to advance to the semifinals in the SH6 category. Winning a medal would help establish para badminton in the U.S., creating more funding and opportunities for growth. The duo developed their nonverbal chemistry through full-time training at a Texas academy. Simon’s journey from training in a local church gym to competing on the Paralympic stage is a testament to her dedication. Their connection began in 2016 at a sports camp, where Krajewski’s father recognized Simon’s potential in badminton. The pair’s shared goal of qualifying for the 2024 Paralympics led them to team up and pursue their dream together. With a win over Thailand, Krajewski and Simon can secure a spot among the final four pairs, edging closer to a historic medal and further promoting the growth of para badminton in the U.S.
