Enhancing Cellular Analysis Through Spectral Flow Cytometry


Agilent Technologies has recently launched the NovoCyte Opteon Spectral Flow Cytometer, the latest addition to their flow cytometry platform, capable of analyzing over 40 markers simultaneously. In an interview with Xiaobo Wang, Vice President of Agilent’s Cell Function and Phenotyping Business, he discussed the advanced spectral capabilities of the NovoCyte Opteon and how they address challenges in flow cytometry.

Since the introduction of the NovoCyte flow cytometry platform in 2014, Agilent has made significant advancements in flow cytometry technology, developing new models based on silicon-photomultipliers with enhanced sensitivity. The NovoCyte Opteon was developed to meet the growing demand for spectral flow cytometry capabilities, offering better resolution and sensitivity for low-expression biomarkers.

The NovoCyte Opteon features technical innovations such as an optical sub-system with 73 detectors and up to 5 lasers, avalanche photodiodes for spectral measurements, and advanced signal processing algorithms. The integrated NovoExpress software offers a user-friendly workflow for experimental setup and data analysis, including autofluorescence removal and spectral unmixing capabilities.

The NovoCyte Opteon is expected to benefit research applications in immunology and cell therapy development, enabling researchers to analyze large flow panels and improve sensitivity for low-expression biomarkers. This latest technology represents a significant milestone in Agilent’s flow cytometry journey, aiming to democratize flow cytometry assays and provide researchers with valuable insights into biology and cellular processes.
