Former Michigan staffer Connor Stalions, the central figure in a sign-stealing scandal that rocked college football last season, is set to feature in a Netflix documentary titled “Sign Stealer.” The documentary is part of Netflix’s “Untold” series and is scheduled to premiere on August 27, along with two other documentaries on the 2009 murder of Tennessee Titans quarterback Steve McNair and U.S. soccer star Hope Solo.
Directed by Micah Brown, a former Kansas football player and experienced documentary filmmaker, “Sign Stealer” will be told from the perspective of Stalions himself, who was accused of orchestrating a scheme to steal opponents’ signals by buying tickets for their games and collecting video footage. This scandal led to an NCAA investigation and the suspension of Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh for violating the conference’s sportsmanship policy. Stalions resigned from his position at Michigan in November and has been silent about his involvement.
The documentary promises to be a wild ride, providing an inside look at the scandal that changed college football. It follows previous college football documentaries released by Netflix, including “Johnny Football” about Johnny Manziel and “Swamp Kings” about Florida under Urban Meyer. Fans of college football and true crime stories will undoubtedly be eager to watch “Sign Stealer” when it premieres on Netflix in August.
