Former Nevada politician Robert Telles has been found guilty of stabbing Las Vegas investigative journalist Jeff German to death in 2022. German had written articles critical of Telles’ leadership and alleged misconduct in office. Telles, who lost his bid for re-election, was charged with open murder with a deadly weapon. Throughout the trial, Telles maintained his innocence, claiming he was framed and police mishandled the investigation. However, prosecutors presented evidence linking Telles to the murder, including security video showing a person in orange clothing and a straw hat, similar to items found at Telles’ home. Telles’ DNA was also found beneath German’s fingernails, and a text from his wife placed him in the vicinity of the crime scene. Despite Telles’ denials, the jury concluded he was responsible for German’s death. Telles, who admitted to having a romantic relationship with a female employee as reported by German, alleged a conspiracy against him by colleagues and business owners to frame him for the murder. Telles claimed he was not the type of person who would commit such a violent act. The verdict in the case was delivered two days after closing arguments, with the sentencing set for later on the same day.
