Riding in Michigan With a U.S. Senator: A Motorcyclist’s Dream

Senator Gary Peters of Michigan recently led groups of riders across the state during his annual motorcycle tour. One of the riders who joined him for the journey was Scott Schloegel, the acting MIC President and CEO. The three-day ride covered about 800 miles, starting in Kalamazoo and ending in Sanford, with stops in Wyoming, Traverse City, and Sault Ste. Marie.

During the tour, Senator Peters met with constituents, military personnel, and visited key locations such as the Grand Valley Armory, the FishPass construction project, the Soo Locks, and Camp Grayling. Earlier this year, Senator Peters partnered with Schloegel and the Association’s Government Relations Office to designate May as Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month to promote safe roadway practices for motorcyclists and drivers.

Senator Peters, a former Lieutenant Commander in the U.S. Navy Reserve, emphasized the importance of road safety for all users, stating that his favorite way to travel across Michigan is by motorcycle. He introduced a resolution to acknowledge fellow motorcyclists and encourage all motorists to take necessary steps to protect riders and everyone on the roads.

The collaboration between Senator Peters and the MIC President during the annual motorcycle tour highlights their shared commitment to supporting the powersports industry and promoting safety for all road users. The successful completion of the tour reflects the strong relationship between Senator Peters, the powersports industry, and the Michigan community.
