Governor Gretchen Whitmer announced the approval of several major projects in Michigan that are expected to create hundreds of jobs. The Michigan Strategic Fund approved incentives for projects in Grand Rapids, Greenville, and Northville, totaling over $740 million in investment and up to 566 jobs.
In Grand Rapids, the Transformational Brownfield Plan was given support for a $700 million investment by developer Grand Action 2.0. This plan includes the construction of mixed-use developments, a soccer stadium, amphitheater, and greenspace along the Grand River. Highlights of the project include a world-class entertainment center, a mixed-use building with rental apartments, a soccer stadium, a commercial tower, and pedestrian skybridge.
In Greenville, the expansion of the Northland Corporation refrigeration manufacturing facility was approved, with a $21.4 million investment and the creation of 200 new jobs. The project is supported by a $1.28 million Michigan Business Development Program grant.
In Northville, a redevelopment project by Hunter Pasteur of a former horse racing facility and brownfield site was supported by MSF. The project aims to create a recreational area, including daylighting a section of the Rogue River, developing an adjacent park, and reactivating a contaminated property. The estimated investment for this project is $17.7 million.
These projects are expected to have a positive economic impact on Michigan and create new opportunities for job growth and community development.
