Anglers in Tawas, Oscoda, Harrisville, Alpena, Thunder Bay River, Rockport, Rogers City, and Hammond Bay faced various weather conditions while trying their luck at catching a variety of fish species. From walleye to salmon, anglers had mixed results in different locations. In Tawas, AuGres, and Oscoda, walleye and yellow perch were the main catches, while in Harrisville and Alpena, salmon and walleye were targeted. In Thunder Bay River, smallmouth bass, catfish, and freshwater drum were caught, with a couple of Chinook salmon showing up during the evening. High winds in Rockport made it challenging for anglers to catch lake trout and Chinook salmon, while in Rogers City, anglers reported catching decent-sized Chinook salmon, lake trout, and walleye. Hammond Bay saw low angler pressure, with the best depths for fishing reported to be 60 to 120 feet of water. Anglers used various techniques and lures, with topwater fishing proving to be an exciting way to target bass. Selecting floating lures that resemble the favorite foods of bass, such as frogs, and fishing in low-light conditions were recommended for successful bass fishing. Despite weather challenges, anglers persevered in their quest to reel in some impressive catches in the Great Lakes region.
