On a Monday night in San Diego, a police officer and the driver of another vehicle were killed in a crash following a chase. Another officer in the same police car was critically injured and fighting for his life. The pursuit began when an officer attempted to stop a vehicle traveling at high speeds on Clairemont Mesa Boulevard. The driver refused to stop and led to a brief chase before the supervisor called it off due to the dangerous speeds. The suspect’s vehicle then crashed into the side of the police car carrying the two officers. The names of the officers and suspect have not been released pending family notifications. The California Highway Patrol will be conducting an independent investigation to reconstruct the events leading to the crash. The injured officer was in the intensive care unit at the hospital. The crash, which occurred around 11:30 p.m., also involved two other vehicles with their drivers escaping significant injury. San Diego Police Chief Scott Wahl expressed deep sorrow over the loss of one of his officers who had dedicated their life to helping others.
