Connor Stalions, former Michigan sign stealer, denies breaking NCAA rules in Netflix documentary

Former Michigan football staffer Connor Stalions recently broke his silence on Netflix in the documentary “Sign Stealer,” following his resignation amid a scandal last season. Stalions admitted to being involved in stealing signs but denied engaging in advance scouting, which is prohibited by the NCAA. The documentary showed Stalions attending games and deciphering signals from opposing teams through various methods.

Despite facing allegations from the NCAA, Stalions maintained his innocence and insisted that he never directed anyone to attend games or record signals. The retired Marine Corps captain was suspended in 2023 and later resigned from his position with the Wolverines. Stalions, who was not paid for his appearance in the documentary, is currently serving as a volunteer coach at Detroit Mumford High School.

The NCAA investigation into Michigan’s sign-stealing scandal overshadowed the team’s unbeaten season last year. Former head coach Jim Harbaugh denied knowledge of the impermissible scouting while with the program. The Big Ten suspended Harbaugh for violating the conference’s sportsmanship policy.

Despite the controversy, Michigan is set to begin defending their national championship title against Fresno State. The documentary shed light on Stalions’ role in the scandal and his passion for football, with director Micah Brown expressing hope for Stalions to have a future in the sport.
