Allan sets sights on first Champions Tour victory in Michigan

Australian golfer Steve Allan is aiming for his first PGA Tour Champions victory as he heads into the final round of the Ally Challenge tied for second place behind leader Stewart Cink. The 50-year-old “rookie” on the senior tour matched Cink’s round of 66 on Saturday, sitting three shots behind the American player who was at 11 under.

Although Allan has had limited wins throughout his pro tour career, including a European tour victory in 1998 and an Australian Open title in 2002, he remains determined to perform well in the tournament. With seven birdies and just one bogey in his third round, Allan emphasized the importance of playing consistently and not putting too much pressure on himself for early birdies.

Other Australian players such as Rod Pampling, Mark Hensby, David Bransdon, and Greg Chalmers were also in contention heading into the final round, showing a strong presence from Down Under.

Meanwhile, Cink, who has four top-10 finishes this season but no wins on the PGA Tour Champions, acknowledged the challenges of golf and the need for discipline and patience in order to secure a victory. Despite being aware of the unpredictable nature of the sport, Cink expressed his excitement about the challenge ahead in the final round of the tournament.
