American women won silver in the 4×200-meter freestyle relay in Nanterre, France. Katie Ledecky now has a record-breaking 13th medal, the most by any woman in Olympics history. The team of Ledecky, Claire Weinstein, Paige Madden, and Erin Gemmell finished behind Australia and ahead of China. This was a reversal of the results from three years ago in Tokyo.
Ledecky also won the 1,500-meter freestyle, setting an Olympic record and earning her eighth gold and 12th overall medal. This achievement puts her ahead of other female swimming legends like Jenny Thompson, Dara Torres, and Natalie Coughlin, who have 12 medals each.
Ledecky’s medals have come from multiple Olympics, and she has expressed her desire to continue competing and qualify for the 2028 games in Los Angeles. With SoFi Stadium set to host swimming events nearby, Ledecky aims to add to her impressive collection of Olympic medals.
