Billy Joel concluded his iconic residency at Madison Square Garden with his 150th show on Thursday night, nearly 50 years after his first performance at the venue in 1978. Joel became the first music franchise at MSG in 2013, agreeing to play one show a month for as long as demand continued. Throughout his residency, Joel set records for the most consecutive performances and the most lifetime performances by any artist at MSG, with banners commemorating his achievements raised in his honor. Joel was joined on stage by a variety of surprise guests over the years, including Bruce Springsteen, Sting, and Miley Cyrus. To celebrate his final show, MSG created a new exhibit showcasing memorabilia from his residency, and fans could enjoy themed concessions and write messages to Joel at a photo station. Throughout his legendary run, Joel sold over 1.9 million tickets to fans from all over the world. In addition to his solo concerts, he participated in benefit concerts for Hurricane Sandy relief and 9/11 victims and heroes. Joel announced his final show at MSG in November 2023 via Instagram.
