Former President Barack Obama endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris for president just days after she launched her campaign following President Joe Biden’s withdrawal. In a video, Obama and Michelle Obama express their pride in Harris and pledge to support her in the election. Their close relationship has been evident since Harris announced her candidacy, with Obama privately expressing his full support. Discussions have taken place about Obama and Harris appearing together on the campaign trail. Obama had previously endorsed Biden but had concerns about his prospects after a weak debate performance. After Biden dropped out, he endorsed Harris and Democrats rallied around her. Former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton also endorsed Harris in a joint statement. Harris and Obama have a history of supporting each other in their political careers, dating back to when she was San Fransisco district attorney and supported Obama’s California campaign for president. Obama endorsed Harris for attorney general of California in 2010, a position she held for six years. He also endorsed and cut a TV ad for Harris when she ran for the Senate in 2016. Additionally, Obama nominated Harris’ brother-in-law, Tony West, to a position in the Justice Department during his administration. Their close political relationship has spanned over two decades.
