A 76-year-old Connecticut woman, Linda Kosuda-Bigazzi, was found dead in her home just hours before she was scheduled to be sentenced for killing her husband and hiding his body. State police were called to her home for a welfare check, and the cause of death was under investigation. Kosuda-Bigazzi had been facing 13 years in prison for the death of her husband, Dr. Pierluigi Bigazzi, 84, which occurred during a fight over needed repairs to their home’s deck. She claimed that she hit him with a hammer in self-defense, causing his death.
Her lawyer expressed shock at her sudden death and described her as a fiercely independent woman. The body of Pierluigi Bigazzi was found in their basement in a state of advanced decomposition, and it was determined that he died from blunt trauma to the head. Investigators believe he died in July 2017 and that his paychecks continued to be deposited into their joint account until his body was discovered. An internal investigation at UConn resulted in disciplinary action against a medical official who was supposed to monitor Pierluigi Bigazzi’s work but had not contacted him in the months leading up to the discovery of his body. The case highlights a tragic and complex situation involving a domestic dispute that ended in violence and deception.
