Over 30 Democratic lawmakers are planning to skip Benjamin Netanyahu’s speech to Congress, with some boycotting it entirely while others will listen from their offices. Bernie Sanders called Netanyahu a “war criminal”, while the BDS movement co-founder criticized the invitation, calling it a confirmation of US partnership in Israel’s actions against Palestinians. Gen Z voters shared their thoughts on Kamala Harris’s candidacy, and Thomas Massie and JD Vance announced they will not attend the speech. House speaker Mike Johnson warned of a “zero-tolerance policy” for disruptions during the speech, with about 200 people arrested during a pro-Palestinian protest ahead of the event. Senator Patty Murray and former House speaker Nancy Pelosi also announced they will not attend the speech, with Pelosi citing a meeting with Israeli citizens affected by recent events instead. Rashida Tlaib criticized Netanyahu’s invite as “disgraceful.” The Republican vice-presidential nominee also revealed he will not be present at the speech. These developments mark growing opposition and criticism towards Netanyahu’s address to Congress.
