New Michigan Brown Trout Festival President Phil Paquette is urging more people to attend the festival events and register for the fishing tournament in order to keep the event sustainable. The 10-day festival aims to cover costs and compensate local charitable groups for their volunteer efforts, but last year’s lack of revenue put a strain on funding. At a critical juncture, Paquette emphasized the importance of community support to ensure the festival’s future.
To attract more attendees, this year’s festival has been enhanced with more vendors, live entertainment, and big-name acts like L.A. Guns and Bobby Rigg. Paquette also envisions expanding the festival with additional large-scale events to draw in visitors from out of town. The festival commenced on Friday and will conclude with an award ceremony on July 28.
Despite challenges in volunteer recruitment and financial sustainability, Paquette remains hopeful that the community will rally behind the festival to ensure its continued success. The 50th anniversary celebration aims to maintain the festival’s longstanding tradition in Alpena and provide a fun and engaging experience for all attendees. If this year is successful, Paquette hopes to implement long-term plans for the festival week, including additional attractions and events to enhance the overall experience.
