Vice President Kamala Harris visited the Air Zoo Aerospace and Science Museum in Portage, Michigan to discuss reproductive rights, criticize political violence, and jab at former President Donald Trump’s new running mate, U.S. Sen. JD Vance. The event was attended by over 200 people, including local politicians and Democratic party members from Southwest Michigan.
Harris highlighted the importance of protecting abortion rights under the Biden administration, contrasting it with Vance’s support for a total ban on abortion. She emphasized Biden’s commitment to vetoing any attempt to ban abortion nationwide.
In addition to discussing reproductive rights, Harris also touched on the need to bridge divides in American politics. She engaged in a conversation with two former conservative voters on issues like abortion, domestic violence, and gun control, emphasizing the power of the people to make decisions about their own health.
The event was attended by local officials, who echoed Harris’ message of coming together despite differences in beliefs. Michigan is considered a battleground state, with unique voter demographics that could swing the presidential election in November.
Harris has visited Michigan multiple times in 2024, continuing to engage with voters and raise awareness for key issues. Meanwhile, former President Trump is set to make a campaign stop in Grand Rapids, his first rally since accepting the Republican nomination.
