Search operations are set to resume Saturday morning for two boaters who went missing on Lake Michigan in northwest Indiana on Friday. The two men had been on a boat with ten other people when one jumped into the water to swim and began to struggle. Another man then jumped in to help, followed by a third man who was wearing a life jacket but got separated. The man in the life jacket was rescued by the Coast Guard and taken to the hospital for mild hypothermia. The search was called off Friday due to strong winds and high waves.
Local officials, including the Lake County Sheriff’s Department and various other agencies, are assisting in the search efforts. One of the missing men is from Elk Grove Village, and the other is from Mount Prospect. In a separate incident on Friday, a man and a teenage girl were rescued from Lake Michigan in Michigan, with the man in serious condition.
The Coast Guard also rescued two children and two adults off Galveston, Texas, after their vessel capsized on Thursday. The four individuals were found clinging to the capsized vessel, with the children wearing life jackets and the adults not. They were safely taken to shore with no reported injuries.
These incidents serve as a reminder of the dangers of boating during unfavorable weather conditions and the importance of wearing a life jacket while out on the water.
